ABSTRACT
Folklore is one of the traditions of the community in conveying a story about the origin of a place, legend, myth or a myth that develops in a region orally and from generation to generation. Folklore can also be used to identify the physical characteristics of local communities and languages in communicating as indicators to recognize the identity of a region. For example, when hearing or reading Malin Kundang’s name then automatically people in Indonesia will remember the city of Padang or Minangkabau culture, the Pitung will remind the people of Betawi culture or the history of Prambanan temple with the city of Yogyakarta culture. Folklore is a means of passing on the values and conceptions of teaching local people to the next generation, folklore used as a means of communication, the development of knowledge and the formation of behavior. But there are still many who do not realize that folklore can be a ‘point’ in promoting regional tourism. Generally tourists visiting an area due to its natural beauty, local culture, infrastructure owned or rides games area provided and access and expenses incurred. Although some places, especially West Sumatra visited by tourists because of its historical, such as Pantai Aia Manih with Malin Kundang legend and Sungai Janiah Solok with the legend of Ikan Sati. Very many tourist attractions in West Sumatra that have historical but not yet published, such as Batu Batikam and Batu Angkek-angkek. The cause is the undocumented stories of the people because the information develops orally from generation to generation. In this paper, we will show how the Minangkabau folklore is compiled with the concept of Information Repackaging, so that its position as a local content does not just disappear and become a cultural heritage for the next generation and become a tourism development tool in West Sumatra.
